Iverson attended Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia, and was a dual-sport athlete. He earned the Associated Press High School Player of the Year award in both football and basketball, and won the Division 5 AAA Virginia state championship in both sports.

From 1996 until 2006, he was a standout shooting guard with the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2001, he was voted NBA MVP, and from 2000 through 2010, he was selected to 11 consecutive All-Star games.
